Comments from the company: We have however, improved the overall message reception rate to be comparable to that of a dual channel receiver. The switching time is not 6 minutes anymore. It is now approximately every 1 micro second. Since messages are longer than 1 microsecond, changing the switching to work at this speed allows the AIS250 to search for messages on either channel and find the beginning of a message (training sequence) and latch on to that message to collect the full vessel data. This allows the AIS250 to pick up messages at a rate greater than 50% - again assuming both frequencies are not fully burdened.
