About Web VTS

 

Web VTS is a web-based maritime traffic monitoring solution for medium and small ports.

 

Web VTS designed for vessel traffic and monitoring centers and increases the safety, security and efficiency of operations within a port. Web VTS provides a complete AIS interface that includes the ability to view and track all vessels, display specific vessel information, and send and receive safety related and text messages. Web VTS’s interface and display of AIS related information offers port operators a substantial leap forward in their ability to communicate and interact with sea-based vessels. Since Web VTS is fully configurable, operators can adjust the size of the chart panel, customize color patterns for AIS targets, set alarms, create reports, filters, and zones specific to each user.

 

Web VTS designed to perform the following functions:

 

 

Web VTS intended for wide range of AIS (Automatic Identification System) users who prefer or have to use web browsers in their work.

 

 

 


Working with Web VTS

 

Before starting to use Web VTS you should obtain your login name and password.

Starting Web VTS

 

  1. Open Internet Explorer and type into the address bar the following address: http://<yourwebsite>/VTS and you should see the Login screen.

 

 

 

  1. Enter your name and password and then press the Log In button to open the Web VTS’ main screen.

 

 

 

 

Using the Toolbar

 

As soon as you start Web VTS, you’ll see its toolbar at the top of the application window. The toolbar contains tools to access commands and other actions. You click a tool to perform its action. Some tools complete the action immediately; others place you in a mode to complete the action.

 

 

 

  1. Map tools in the toolbar:

 

 

 

             - Refresh.

 - Left move of the map.

 - Right move of the map.

 - Up move of the map.

 - Down move of the map.

 - Zoom out of the map.

 - Zoom in of the map.

 - Select scale.

 - Select size of map window.

 - Display the Microsoft Virtual Earth map.

* - Display the Google map.

 - Display the BSB nautical chart.

 - Display the Microsoft MapPoint map.

 

 

  1. Designers and other tools  in the toolbar:

 

 

 

 - Open Filter Designer.

* - Open Zone Designer.

 - Open Route Planner.

 - Open Alarm Designer.

 - Open Report Designer.

 - Show the Alarm window.

 - Open the Report window.

* - Show the History Replay panel.

* - Open Messages Inbox.

* - Open Messages Outbox.

* - Open Sent Messages window.

 - Open Virtual Buoy Sender window. 

 

 

  1. Show names, select location, filtering, and action tools in the toolbar:

 

        

 

 - Check the Names box to display the names of vessels.

 

 - Use this box to set up a desired location, so next time you could move to it by the only one click.

             

 - Click this button  to edit the active filter or click this arrow  to select a filter.

             

 - Select the type of actions from the dropdown list (Move/Select, Move, Select, Zoom In, Zoom Out and Set Position).

       

  1. In the lower part of the application window you will see the following tools:

 

          

 

            - Click this button when you finish your work with the application.

 

            - Click this button to open the Web VTS User’s Guide.

 

            - Type the name of the vessel (MMSI number or Call

           Sign) in the Search box and click Go to find the vessel.

 

            - Use this button to obtain ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) of the vessel. 

 

 

Displaying Vessel Static and Dynamic Information 

To display vessel static and dynamic information you could use two options:

  1. Point your mouse cursor on any symbol of vessel (triangle) and make a left click;

- or -

  1. Point your mouse cursor on any name of vessel in the Vessel list (that is located at the most left side of the browser window) and make a left click;

 

Then you will see the Vessel Data panel below the chart window.

 

 

Tip: You could close the Vessel Data panel at any time by clicking the close button at the upper right corner of the Vessel Data panel.

 

 

Displaying Distance and Bearing

 

To display distance and bearing to any vessel click an arrow of the On Click drop-down box and select Set Position.

 

 

Next point your mouse cursor on the map window and make a left click and then you will see the red dot.

The settings of the On Click drop-down box will switch to the default one: Move/Select.

 

 

 

Finally select any vessel and see distance and bearing in the Vessel Data panel.

 

 


Using Filter Designer

 

Filter Designer is a power tool that allows users to select what vessels (AIS targets) to display.

 

To start Filter Designer click the Filter Designer button  on the toolbar and you will see the Filter Designer window.

 

 

 

Filter Designer description:

 

 

Further the Filter Designer contains several identical lines; those have the same controls: the Enable check box, the Group field, the MMSI field, the Name field, the Call Sign field, the Ship Type dropdown box, the AIS Type dropdown box, the Show check box and the Color dropdown box.

Each of these lines represents a condition of the filter. The first line has the highest priority.

 

Tip: Use an asterisk symbol * to specify all vessels’ names, MMSI numbers, or call signs; you can type it in any field (MMSI, Name, or Call Sign). Use an asterisk symbol, if you want to apply those settings for all vessels.

 

 

Filter Examples:

 

a)      Display only one vessel:

 

This filter will show only the HUSTLER II vessel and hide all others.            

 

·        Click  to open the Filter Designer panel.

·        Select <New> from Select Filter.

·         Instead of “Filter1” type “Display only one vessel” in the Zone field.    

 

Note: The Filter Designer allows a user to create as many conditions of the filter as wanted.

Each line contains one condition. The fist line has the highest priority and so on.

 

Now you can start to make settings for displaying HUSTLER II. Use the fist line.

 

·         Leave Enable checked.

·         Leave Group blank

·         Leave MMSI blank.

·         Type “HUSTLER II” in the Name field.

·         Leave Call Sign blank.

·         Leave “All” in Ship Type.

·         Leave “All” in AIS Type.

·         Leave Show checked.

·         Select “Lime” from Color.

 

You can use the second line to make settings to hide all other vessels:

 

·         Leave Enable checked.

·         Leave Group blank.

·         Type the asterisk symbol * in the MMSI field (it means “all vessels”). Tip: Use the asterisk symbol *, when you want to apply the condition to all vessels (targets).

·         Leave Name blank.

·         Leave Call Sign blank.

·         Leave “All” in Ship Type.

·         Leave “All” in AIS Type.

·         Clear Show.

·         Leave “Transparent” in Color.

 

 

 

 

Here is the result of applying this filter:

 

 

 

b)      Display only cargo vessels:

 

This filter will display only cargo vessels and hide all others.          

 

·        Click  to open the Filter Designer panel.

·        Select <New> from Select Filter.

·         Instead of “Filter1” type “Display only cargo vessels” in the Zone field.    

 

Now you can start to make settings for displaying cargo vessels. Use the fist line.

 

·         Leave Enable checked.

·         Leave Group blank.

·         Type the asterisk symbol * in the MMSI field (it means “all vessels”).

·         Leave Name blank.

·         Leave Call Sign blank.

·         Select “Cargo” in Ship Type.

·         Leave “All” in AIS Type.

·         Leave Show checked.

·         Select “Violet” from Color.

 

You can use the second line to make settings to hide all other vessels:

 

·         Leave Enable checked.

·         Leave Group blank.

·         Type the asterisk symbol * in the MMSI field (it means “all vessels”).

·         Leave Name blank.

·         Leave Call Sign blank.

·         Leave “All” in Ship Type.

·         Leave “All” in AIS Type.

·         Clear Show.

·         Leave “Transparent” in Color.

 

 

 

Here is the result of applying this filter:

 

 

 

c)      Display only base stations:

 

This filter will display only base stations and hide all other AIS targets.       

 

·        Click  to open the Filter Designer panel.

·        Select <New> from Select Filter.

·         Instead of “Filter1” type “Display only base stations” in the Filter Name field.    

 

Now you can start to make settings for displaying base stations. Use the fist line.

 

·         Leave Enable checked.

·         Leave Group blank

·         Type the asterisk symbol * in the MMSI field (it means “all vessels”).

·         Leave Name blank.

·         Leave Call Sign blank.

·         Leave “All” in Ship Type.

·         Select “Base Station” in AIS Type.

·         Leave Show checked.

·         Select “Blue” from Color.

 

You can use the second line to make settings to hide all other vessels:

 

·         Leave Enable checked.

·         Leave Group blank

·         Type the asterisk symbol * in the MMSI field (it means “all vessels”).

·         Leave Name blank.

·         Leave Call Sign blank.

·         Leave “All” in Ship Type.

·         Leave “All” in AIS Type.

·         Clear Show.

·         Leave “Transparent” in Color.

 

 

 

Here is the result of applying this filter:

 

 

d)      Display the group of vessels:

 

This filter will display the group of vessels and hide all others. Before an applying the filter, we need to prepare a predefined group of the vessels. In this case we are going to display BC Ferries. 

 

·        Click  to open the Filter Designer panel.

 

 

·        Click the Groups button to open the Group Designer panel.

 

 

·        Select <New> from Select Group. If you open the Group Designer panel first time, then <New> is already on the spot.

·         Instead of “Group1” type “BC Ferries” in the Group Name field.    

·         Type the names of the vessels in the Name field one by one.

 

 Tip: By default the Group Designer panel has 8 lines. If you intend to type more than 8 names then when you are finished the 8th line, please click Apply and you will see additional lines.

 

 

·        Click the OK button to save your changes and return to the Filter Designer panel.

·        Select <New> from Select Filter.

·         Instead of “Filter1” type “BC Ferries” in the Filter Name field.    

 

Now you can start to make settings of displaying BC Ferries. Use the fist line.

 

·         Leave Enable checked.

·         Select “BC Ferries” from Group.

·         Leave MMSI blank.

·         Leave Name blank.

·         Leave Call Sign blank.

·         Leave “All” in Ship Type.

·         Leave “All” in AIS Type.

·         Leave Show checked.

·         Select “LightCoral” from Color.

 

You can use the second line to make settings to hide all other vessels:

 

·         Leave Enable checked.

·         Leave Group blank.

·         Type the asterisk symbol * in the MMSI field (it means “all vessels”).

·         Leave Name blank.

·         Leave Call Sign blank.

·         Leave “All” in Ship Type.

·         Leave “All” in AIS Type.

·         Clear Show.

·         Leave “Transparent” in Color.

 

 

·        Choose the OK button to save your changes and return to the main view.

Using Zone Designer

 

Zone Designer allows users drawing any precise zone on the map. That is powerful tool for visualisation of any desire monitoring zone on the map. Also that is a basis for reports.

 

Zone Designer tool allows creating two types of zones (Circle and Polygon) and two types of lines (Line L and Line R).

 

To start Zone Designer click the Zone Designer button   on the toolbar and you will see the Zone Designer window.

 

 

 

Zone Designer description:

 

·        Select Zone : Use this dropdown box to select any existing zone or to create a new one.

·        Zone Name: Use this box to display and edit a zone’s name (by default the program uses “ZoneX” name for every new zone, where X is a first available number).

·        Rename: Use this button to rename any existing zone.

·        Delete: Use this button to delete any existing zone.

·        Enable: Leave this box checked to enable a zone.

·        Zone Type: Use this box to select a type of a zone (Circle or Polygon) or a type of a line (Line L or Line R).

·        Radius: Type a length of the radius in Nautical Miles (NM). Note: available only for Circle.

·        Color: Use this dropdown box to select any predefined color of a zone.

·        Fill: Check this box to hatch a zone.

·        Latitude and Longitude: Type in these boxes a zone’s position. For the circle zone that is a center of the circle. Tip: Use the Add Points button to simplify this action.

·        Delete: Check this box to delete any points (latitude and longitude pairs).

·        Add Points: Use this button to create zone points by clicking on the map.

·        OK: Click this button to save the changes and return to the main view.

·        Cancel: Click this button to cancel all changes and return to the main view.

·        Apply: Click this button to save the changes but keep the designer window open.

 

 

Zone Examples:

 

a)      Drawing the circle zone:

 

·        Click  to open the Zone Designer panel.

·        Select <New> from Select Zone.

·         Instead of “Zone1” type “Delta Port” in the Zone field.

·         Leave Enable checked.

·         Select “Circle” from Zone Type.

·         Type “2” in the Radius box (default: 1.000).

·         Select “Lime” from Color (default: “LightCoral”).

·         Leave Fill checked.

 

 

 

·        Then you need to select a center of the zone; please click the Add Points button and you will be redirected to the map view.

 

 

 

·        Next, left click on the desired location to establish a center of the circle zone.

 

 

 

·        Click the Return to Zone Designer button to return to the Zone Designer window.

 

 

 

·        Choose the OK button to save your changes and return to the main view.

 

 

 

b)      Drawing the polygon zone:

 

·        Click  to open the Zone Designer panel.

·        Select <New> from Select Zone.

·        Instead of “Zone1” type “Delta Port Polygon” in the Zone field.

·        Leave Enable checked.

·        Select “Polygon” from Zone Type.

·        Select “Magenta” from Color;

·        Leave Fill checked.

 

 

 

·        Then you need to add polygon points; please click the Add Points button and you will be redirected to the map view.

 

 

 

·        Draw the polygon zone by left clicking on the map.

 

 

 

·        Click the Return to Zone Designer button to return to the Zone Designer window.

 

 

 

·        Choose the OK button to save your changes and return to the main view.

 

 

 

c)      Drawing the line:

 

Zone Designer allows drawing two types of line: “Line L” and “Line R”. Those lines help to distinguish outbound traffic from inbound one:

§         If you draw Line L from right to left or bottom-up then all inbound traffic will be from your left hand side.

§         If you draw Line R from right to left or bottom-up then all inbound traffic will be from your right hand side.

§         Tip: To choose the right type of the line, please imagine that you look along the line from the initial point towards the second one. Please see the pictures below.

 

 

 

 

 

·        Click  to open the Zone Designer panel.

·        Select <New> from Select Zone.

·        Instead of “Zone1” type “Fraser River Line L” in the Zone field.

·        Leave Enable checked.

·        Select “Line L” from Zone Type.

·        Select “Chocolate” from Color.

 

 

 

 

·        Then you need to add line points; please click the Add Points button and you will be redirected to the map view.

 

 

 

·        Draw the line by left clicking on the map.

 

 

 

·        Click the Return to Zone Designer button to return to the Zone Designer panel.

 

 

 

·        Choose the OK button to save your changes and return to the main view.

 

 

 

Using Route Designer

 

The primary task of the Route Designer is providing a tool to obtain ETA (estimated time of arrival) of the desired point. The tool allows building a route and then user could utilize the route to get ETA. 

 

To start Route Designer click the Route Designer button  on the toolbar and you will see the Route Designer window.

 

 

Route Designer description:

 

·        Select Route: Use this dropdown box to select any existing route or create a new one.

·        Route Name: Use this box to display and edit an alarm’s name (by default the program uses “RouteX” name for every new route, where X is a first available number).

·        Rename: Use this button to rename any existing route.

·        Delete: Use this button to delete any existing route.

·        Enable: Leave this check box checked to enable the route.

·        Color: Use this dropdown box to select a color of the route line.

·        Delete: Check this box to delete any points (latitude and longitude pairs).

·        Latitude and Longitude: Type in these boxes route legs’ position.

            Tip: Use the Add Points button to simplify this action.

·        Show: Uncheck this box to deselect a route’s leg.

·        Waypoint Name: Type the Waypoint’s name to display it on the chart.

·        OK: Click this button to save the changes and return to the main view.

·        Cancel: Click this button to cancel all changes and return to the main view.

·        Apply: Click this button to save the changes but keep the designer window open.

·        Help: Click this button to open the Web VTS User’s Guide.

·        Add Points: Use this button to move to the chart window and locate the waypoints of the route.

 

Route and ETA examples:

 

a)      Create the route and then use this route to obtain ETA of a point of interest.

 

·    Click  to open the Route Designer panel.

·    Click the Select Route dropdown box and select <New>.

·    Instead of “Route1” type “Active Pass to Tsawwassen” in the Route field.

·    Leave Enable checked.

·    Live “Lime” in Color.

 

 

·    Then you need to add waypoints; please click the Add Points button and you will be

    redirected to the map view.

 

 

·    Draw the route by left clicking on the map.

 

 

·    Click the Return to Route Designer button to return the Route Designer panel.

 

 

·    Type the names of the waypoints in Waypoint Name.

 

·    Next click the OK button to save your changes and return to the main view.

 

 

·    Select any vessel of interest to get ETA. Tip: Click on any desired vessel (in our case it could    be Spirit of Vancouver Island) and you could see as the Vessel Data panel appears at the bottom of the map’s view. This panel shows all receiving data from the vessel; at the bottom, right side of the panel you could see the Show ETA button.

 

 

·    Click the Show ETA button and the ETA panel appears.

 

.

 

·    Select the route from the Route dropdown box and you could see all ETAs to all desired     waypoints.

 

 

·    Tip: You could keep this floating panel open and all data will be refreshed base on the     settings.

 

 

Using Alarm Designer

 

To start Alarm Designer click the Alarm Designer button  on the toolbar and you will see the Alarm Designer window.

 

 

 

Alarm Designer description:

 

·        Select Alarm: Use this dropdown box to select any existing alarm or create a new one.

·        Alarm: Use this box to display and edit an alarm’s name (by default the program uses “AlarmX” name for every new alarm, where X is a first available number).

·        Rename: Use this button to rename any existing alarm.

·        Delete: Use this button to delete any existing alarm.

·        Enable: Leave this check box checked to enable the alarm.

·        Alarm Level: Use this dropdown box to select one of three levels of alarm: “Low”, “Middle” or “High”. Those settings will effect on a color of alarm message: green, yellow, and red respectively.

·        Message: Type in this box a message that appears when the alarm is on. Tip: This message will help you to distinguish the alarm among others.

·        Color: Use this dropdown box to select a color of the alarm message.

·        Zone: Use this dropdown box to select an excising zone.

·        Filter: Use this dropdown box to select an exciting filter.

·        On Enter: Select this check box to trigger the alarm when a vessel enters the predefined zone.

·        On Exit: Select this check box to trigger the alarm when a vessel exits the predefined zone.

·        Min Speed: Type in this box the minimum speed (Min Speed) in knots. The alarm will be triggered when a vessel sails less than the selected speed.

·        Max Speed: Type in this box the maximum speed (Max Speed) in knots. The alarm will be triggered when a vessel sails above the selected speed.

·        Do not show in Alarm Events Window: Check this box, if you don’t want to trigger the Alarm pop-up window.

·        Send AIS Safety Message: Check this box, if you what to send AIS Safety Message to the vessel that violates your prohibitions such as an entering to the restricted zone, or speed limit.

Tip: The messages will be sending automatically based on you conditions.

·        AIS Message: Type the message that you what to send to vessel that violates your prohibitions.

·        Send Email Notification Message: Check this box, if you want to receive a notification about any violation of your prohibitions.

·        Email Address: Type the e-mail address where all notifications will be redirected.

·        OK: Click this button to save the changes and return to the main view.

·        Cancel: Click this button to cancel all changes and return to the main view.

·        Apply: Click this button to save the changes but keep the designer window open.

·        Help: Click this button to open the Web VTS User’s Guide.

 

 

Alarm Examples:

 

a)      Creating the alarm that is based on one zone:

 

·        Click  to open the Alarm Designer panel.

·        Click the Select Alarm dropdown box and select <New>.

·        Instead of “Alarm1” type “Delta Port Circle Alarm” in the Alarm field.

·        Leave Enable checked.

·        Select “High” from Alarm Level.

·        Type “Delta Port Alarm” in Message.

·        Select “Black” from Color.

·        Select “Delta Port” from Zone.

·        Select “No tugs” from Filter.

·        Select On Enter.

·        Leave On Exit unchecked.

·        Leave “0” in Min Speed.

·        Leave “0” in Max Speed.

·        Leave Do not show in Alarm Events Window unchecked. 

·        Check Send AIS Safety Message.

·        Type any message in the AIS Message box. As an example we have typed “You have entered to the restricted zone. Leave the restricted zone immediately. Coast Guard”.

·        Check Send Email Notification Message.

·        Type an e-mal address in the Email Address box. As an example we have typed “coastguard@coastguard.com”

 

 

 

·        Next click the OK button to save your changes and return to the main view.

 

 

·        As soon as the alarm condition occurs, the Alarm window appears.

 

 

Note: The alarm pop-up window will appear periodically even you close it, until you select the Hide check box and click Apply.

Tip: You could use the Hide All button to check all alarm’s notifications at once.

 

·        As soon as the alarm condition occurs, you receive the following e-mail’s notification.

 

 

·        As soon as the alarm condition occurs, the message “You have entered into the restricted zone. Leave the restricted zone immediately. Coast Guard.” is sent to the vessel that has entered to the restricted zone. Note: The message will be sent, if you have a connected AIS transponder.

 

 

Using Report Designer

 

Report Designer allows users to build and customize reports.

 

To start Report Designer click the Report Designer button  on the toolbar and you will see the Report Designer window.

 

 

 

Report Designer description:

 

·        Select Report: Use this dropdown box to select any existing report or create a new one.

·        Report Name: Use this box to display and edit a report’s name (by default the program uses “ReportX” name for every new report, where X is a first available number).

·        Rename: Use this button to rename any existing report.

·        Delete: Use this button to delete any existing report.

·        Enable: Leave this check box checked to enable the report.

·        Report Type: Use this dropdown box to select any predefined report such as “Zone Summary”, “Extended Zone Summary”, “Arrival/Departure”, “Arrival Time Forecast”, “Berth Time Summary”, “Speed Summary”, “Speed Violation” and “Enter/Exit”.

·        Enable: Leave this check box checked to include this zone and/or this filter in the report.

·        Zone: Use this dropdown box to select an excising zone.

·        Filter: Use this dropdown box to select an excising filter.

·        Test: Click this button to test the designed report.

·        OK: Click this button to save the changes and return to the main view.

·        Cancel: Click this button to cancel all changes and return to the main view.

·        Apply: Click this button to save the changes but keep the designer window open.

 

 

Report Examples:

 

a)      The Arrival/Departure report:

 

This report will display information about the arrival/departure passenger vessels within the Delta Port zone.

Note: TheDelta Port” zone and theDisplay passenger vessel” filter have been created in our previous examples.

 

·        Click  to open the Report Designer panel.

·        Click the Select Report dropdown box and select <New>.

·        Instead of “Report1” type “Delta Port zone Arrival/Departure” in the Report Name field.

·        Leave Enable checked.

·        Select “Arrival/Departure” from Report Type.

·        Select “Delta Port” from Zone.

·        Select “Display passenger vessels” from Filter.

 

 

 

 

 

b)      The Zone Summary report for one zone:

 

If you need a quick estimation about the harbour’s condition, you could use the “Zone Summary” report.

Note: To be able to produce any report, you have to build at least one zone. In our case we have built the “Vancouver harbour” zone. Please see below.

 

 

 

Start to make the settings of the “Vancouver Harbour Zone Summary” report.

 

·        Click  to open the Report Designer panel.

·        Click the Select Report dropdown box and select <New>.

·        Instead of “NewReport1” type “Vancouver Harbour Zone Summary” in the Report field.

·        Leave Enable checked.

·        Select “Zone Summary” from Report Type.

·        Select “Vancouver harbour” from Zone.

·        Leave Filter blank.

 

 

·        Click Apply to save the settings.

·        Click Test to display the report.

 

 

Note: If you have several overlapping zones, then the “Total unique ships” table will display only unique ships within those zones.

 

c)      The Zone Summary report for the multiple zones:

 

Three zones have been created: Vancouver Harbour (the magenta polygon), Delta Port (the lime circle) and Fraser River (the cyan polygon). Please see below.

 

 

Start to make the settings of the “Multiple Zones Summary” report.

 

·        Click  to open the Report Designer panel.

·        Click the Select Report dropdown box and select <New>.

·        Instead of “NewReport1” type “Multiple Zones Summary” in the Report field.

·        Leave Enable checked.

·        Select “Zone Summary” from Report Type.

·        Select “Vancouver Harbour” from the Zone’s first line.

·        Select “Delta Port” from the Zone’s second line.

·        Select “Fraser River” from the Zone’s third line.

·        Leave Filter blank.

 

 

·        Click Apply to save the settings.

·        Click Test to display the report.

 

 

d)      The Extended Zone Summary report:

 

If you need more detailed information about each vessel within a zone, you could use the “Extended Zone Summary” report. The report will be build for the “Fraser River” zone that we have created.

 

·        Click  to open the Report Designer panel.

·        Click the Select Report dropdown box and select <New>.

·        Instead of “Report1” type “Fraser River Extended Zone Summary” in the Report Name field.

·        Leave Enable checked.

·        Select “Extended Zone Summary” from Report Type.

·        Select “Fraser River” from Zone.

·        Leave Filter blank.

 

 

 

·        Click Apply to save the settings.

·        Click Test to display the report.

 

 

 

 

e)      The Arrival Time Forecast report:

 

This report can provide a forecast of the arrival of the vessel. To be able to produce this report we already built the “Vancouver Harbour” zone (the circle with  the radius of 25 NM).

 

·        Click  to open the Report Designer panel.

·        Click the Select Report dropdown box and select <New>.

·        Instead of “Report1” type “Vancouver Harbour Arrival Time Forecast” in the Report Name field.

·        Leave Enable checked.

·        Select “Arrival Time Forecast” from Report Type.

·        Select “Vancouver Harbour” from Zone.

·        Leave Filter blank.

 

 

·        Click Apply to save the settings.

·        Click Test to display the report.

 

 

 

f)        The Speed Violation report:

 

If you need to control the speed of the vessels within a zone and record any speed violation, you could use this report. Note: You can control the maximum speed and the minimum one too. The report will be build for the “Vancouver Harbour “zone (the magenta polygon) that we have created.

 

·        Click  to open the Report Designer panel.

·        Click the Select Report dropdown box and select <New>.

·        Instead of “Report1” type “Vancouver Harbour Speed Violation more than 15 knots” in the Report Name field.

·        Leave Enable checked.

·        Select “Speed Violation” from Report Type.

·        Select “Vancouver Harbour” from Zone.

·        Leave Filter blank.

 

 

 

·        Click Apply to save the settings.

·        Click Test to display the report.

 

 

The report contains the information about the position of the first recorded violation, the maximum speed of the vessel and the duration of the violation (how long the maximum speed was above the permitted one). Note: The report displays the information for the last 24 hours. The 24 hours is the default value.

 

g)      The Speed Summary report:

 

If you need to make the thorough analysis of the speed of the vessels within any particular busy passage, you can use this report.

To produce this report we have built the “Active Pass” zone (the magenta polygon).

Active Pass is on the main connecting ferry route between the mainland and Vancouver Island.

 

 

Start to make the settings of the “Active Pass Speed Summary” report.

 

·        Click  to open the Report Designer panel.

·        Click the Select Report dropdown box and select <New>.

·        Instead of “Report1” type “Active Pass Speed Summary” in the Report Name field.

·        Leave Enable checked.

·        Select “Speed Summary” from Report Type.

·        Select “Active Pass” Zone.

·        Leave Filter blank.

 

 

·        Click Apply to save the settings.

·        Click Test to display the report.

 

 

Note: The report displays the information for the last 24 hours. The 24 hours is the default value.

 

h)      The Berth Time Summary report:

 

If you need to know how much time the vessel has occupied the berth and how much the berthage fee is, then you could use this report.

We already build the Centerm zone to produce this report. Centerm is a container terminal of Vancouver port.

 

·        Click  to open the Report Designer panel.

·        Click the Select Report dropdown box and select <New>.

·        Instead of “Report1” type “Centerm Berth Time Summary” in the Report Name field.

·        Leave Enable checked.

·        Select “Berth Time Summary” from Report Type.

·        Select “Centerm” from Zone.

·        Type “0.29” in Fee field.

·        Select “Display only cargo vessels” from Filter.

 

 

·        Click Apply to save the settings.

·        Click Test to display the report.

 

 

Note: Total was calculated based on the following formula: $ 0.292 x length of the vessel (in meters).

 

i)        The Enter/Exit report:

 

This report will display inbound and outbound traffic on the Fraser River.

To produce this report we already built Line 1, Line 2 and Line 3 on the Fraser River.

 

 

·        Click  to open the Report Designer panel.

·        Click the Select Report dropdown box and select <New>.

·        Instead of “Report1” type “Fraser River Inbound and Outbound traffic” in the Report Name field.

·        Leave Enable checked.

·        Select “Enter/Exit” from Report Type.

·        Select “Line 1” from Zone.

·        Select “Line 2” from Zone.

·        Select “Line 3” from Zone.

·        Select “Display only cargo vessels” from Filter for all zones.

 

 

·        Click Apply to save the settings.

·        Click Test to display the report.

 

 

 

Using Alarm Window 

 

You can open and view the alarm’s information by clicking the Alarm Window button.

 

 

Alarm widow description:

 

·        Apply: Click this button to save the changes but keep the Alarm window open.

·        Close: Click this button to close the window.

·        Hide All: Use this button to hide all alarms at once.

·        Show: Use this dropdown box to select All or Active. When you choose All, then you could see all alarms even if you already hid them. When you choose Active, then you could see only those alarms that were not acknowledged.

·        Time Interval: Use this dropdown box to select any of predefined intervals of showing of alarms. You could choose from 24 hours, 48 hours, 10 days, 30 days, 90 days, 365 days or all.

·        Refresh every: Use this box to type any number of seconds to refresh the Alarm window. When you finish a typing, click the Set button to save you changes.

·        Hide: Use those checkboxes to acknowledge any of alarms. To safe you changes, you have to click Apply.

·        Apply: Click this button to save the changes but keep the Alarm window open.

·        Close: Click this button to close the window.

 

 


Using Run Report

 

You can run and display any previously built report using the Report window.

To show the Report window click the Reports button   on the toolbar and the Report window appears.

 

 

Run Report description:

 

·        Report: Select the desired report from this window.

·        Time Interval: Select the desired time interval from this dropdown box. (User Defined, Last 24 Hours, Last 48 Hours, Last 10 Days, Last 30 Days, Last 90 Days, Last 365 Days, Today, Yesterday, This Week, Last Week, This Month, Last Month, This Quarter, Last Quarter, This Year, Last Year, All).

·        Starting Date: Use this calendar to select the starting date, when you choose the User Defined mode of the Time Interval box.

·        Ending Date: Use this calendar to select the ending date, when you choose the User Defined mode of the Time Interval box.

·        Starting Time: Select the hour, the minute and AM or PM from these dropdown boxes.

·        Ending Time: Select the hour, the minute and AM or PM from these dropdown boxes.

·        Run: Click this button to run and display the report.

·        Close: Click this button to close the Report window and move back to the viewer.

·        Help: Click this button to open the manual.

 

 

Using History Replay

 

You can use the History Replay pane to replay back the recorded AIS data.

 

To show the History Replay pane click the History Replay button  on the toolbar and the History Replay pane appears at the right side of the browser’s window.

 

 

History Replay description:

 

·        Date: Use this build in calendar to select the date.

·        Time: Select the hour, the minute and AM or PM from these dropdown boxes.

·        Replay: Click this button to start replaying the historic AIS data.

·        Pause: Click this button to pause replaying the historic AIS data.

·        Cancel: Click this button to stop replaying the historic AIS data and move back to the real time mode.

·         - Use these buttons to skip replaying forward or backward. The increment of skipping is 1 minute or 10 minutes or 1 hour.

·        To hide the History Replay pane click again the History Replay button  on the toolbar and the History Replay pane disappears

 

Tip: You can check the date and the time of replaying on the display above the Replay button.

 

 

  

Sending AIS messages

 

Note: This function works only with the connected AIS transponder.

 

To send AIS messages click the Messages Outbox button  and the Outbox window appears.

 

 

Messages Outbox description:

 

·        Select Message: Use this dropdown box to select any existing message.

·        Message Name: This field shows the name of the message when you select it.

·        Message Type: Select the type of AIS message from this dropdown box. You could choose the Broadcast Safety message or the Addressed Safety message.

·        Message Text: Type your message in this box. Note: The length of the message should not exceed 153 characters.

·        Repeat Interval: Type the number of minutes to repeat the message. It means how often the message will be sent. If you type 3, then in every 3 minutes the message will be sent out.

·        Repeat Time: Type the number of minutes to define the duration of sending the message. If you type 15, then within 15 minutes the message will be sent out based on the frequency’s settings.

·        Count: This box shows the number of the sent messages.

·        Send and Close: When you finish settings of the message, click this button to send the message and close the Messages Outbox window.

·        Close: Click this button to close the Messages Outbox window without a sending the message.

·        Send: Click this button to send the message and leave the Messages Outbox window open.

·        Delete: Use this button to delete the message.

 

Examples:

 

e)      Sending of the Addressed Safety message:  

 

·        Click  to open the Messages Outbox window.

·        Select “Addressed Safety” from Message Type.

·         Select “3669705” from Select MMSI and this MMSI appears in MMSI box. Note: You are able to see only MMSIs of those vessels that you could see on your main screen. For example: If you could see just two vessels on the chart, then you will see just two MMSI’s in this box.  Tip: You can type the MMSI in this box directly.

·         Type “Test message 1” in the Message Text box.

·         Type “3” in the Repeat Interval box.

·         Type “15” in the Repeat Time box.

 

 

·         Click the Send and Close button to send the message and close the window.

 

Tip: To check the action you could open the Sent Messages widow by clicking the Sent Messages button .

 

 

 

Viewing sent AIS messages

Viewing received AIS messages

·        Time Interval: Use this dropdown box to select any of predefined intervals of showing the received messages. You could choose from 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 24 hours, 3 days or 7 days.

·        Refresh every: Use this box to type any number of seconds to refresh the Inbox Messages window. When you finish a typing, click the Set button to save you changes.

·        Hide: Use those checkboxes to acknowledge any of messages. To safe you changes, you have to click Apply.

·        Close: Click this button to close the window.

 

 

 

Working with Virtual AIS AtoN

 

Note: This function works only with the connected AIS base station.

 

To start to work with Virtual AIS AtoN’s function, click the Virtual AtoN button  and the AID TO NAVIGATION panel appears.

 

 

Virtual AIS AtoN panel description:

 

·        Select AtoN: Use this dropdown box to select any existing AtoN or create a new one.

·        AtoN Name: Use this box to display and edit AtoN’s name (by default the program uses “AtoNX” name for every new AtoN, where X is a first available number).

·        Rename: Use this button to rename any existing AtoN.

·        Delete: Use this button to delete any existing AtoN.

·        Enable: Leave this check box checked to enable the AtoN’s transmission.

·        AtoN Type: Use this dropdown box to select the type of the AtoN.

·        MMSI: Type an appropriate MMSI number of the AtoN in this box.

·        Latitude and Longitude: Type in these boxes AtoN’s position. Tip: Use the Set button to simplify this action.

·        Repeat Interval: Type the number of minutes to repeat the message. It means how often the message will be sent. If you type 3, then in every 3 minutes the message will be sent out.

·        Repeat Time: Type the number of days to define the duration of broadcasting AtoN . If you type 15, then within 15 days the AtoN’ message will be broadcasted out based on the frequency’s settings.

·        VDO Count: This box shows the number of the sent AtoN messages.

·        VDM Count: This box shows the number of the forwarded AtoN messages.

·        OK: Click this button to save the changes and return to the main view.

·        Cancel: Click this button to cancel all changes and return to the main view.

·        Apply: Click this button to save the changes but keep the designer window open.
